Editing text on your Wix site is a key part of creating an engaging, effective, and exciting web experience for your visitors. Whether you're looking to customize your website or create an entirely new one from scratch, editing and formatting the text is a skill that will always come in handy.
As your Wix expert, let us walk you through some helpful tips and tricks so you can make changes quickly and efficiently!
Dashboard
Using your desktop or laptop to access your site, the first thing is to get into your dashboard. You'll always know you're in the dashboard when you see the vertical column on the left-hand side.
Now that you're in the dashboard, click Edit Site.
Or if you don't have that, you might have to go to Quick Access on the lower left side of your dashboard and click Edit Site from there.
Wix Editor
Next, you will know you're in the editor if you see a smaller left-hand column with a white background.
Once in the editor, you can simply navigate to the page you want to edit.
After that, find the text box you want to make changes to. Double-click on it, and you can go ahead and type in whatever you want to add or edit there.
It will also show you a formatting box, just like how we do it in Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
Let's say you want to undo what you just made; just click the curved arrow pointing left on the upper right side, and it will do its thing.
Save, Preview, Publish
Once you have made the changes, click Save.
Don't forget to check if the changes really have been made by clicking Preview.
Make sure to take a look at its mobile version, too.
Then, Publish it whenever you're ready.
So that's the easiest way. Find the text area, double-click it, and change the text. Quick and simple!
Grouped Text/Object
How would you know if the text or object you want to edit is in a group?
Well, you know they are in a group when you click on it, and it says, Group.
Obviously, there's often a reason they were grouped; and there's no need for you to ungroup them.
You just have to click on it again until you get into the text element.
Just double-click, and you're in there! You can now make changes as needed.
Layering
There's one more bit or, or possibly, a complexity that you may want to take a look at, and that is layering.
This happens when you have layers on top of each other, your text box is hidden, and you can't click on it, just like what we have here.
We've got this container box there that's overtop. So when we click on the text box, it keeps going to the box design instead. And that is frustrating!
But don't worry! What we just need to do is go into our layers panel.
Layers
To get to the layers panel, go to Tools and click Layers.
Another way to go there is by clicking the layer icon on the lower left side of your screen.
Once you click Layers, it will show you all the layered group text/objects.
Look for the group where the text you want to edit belongs.
You can click on each of them, and it will scroll back up to where it is located. This will also help you know if it is the correct text box you are about to edit.
From there, you can now see a button that says Edit Text.
And voila! The box over top of the text will not interfere at this point, and you can now make whatever changes you want to make.
There you have it! Editing text in Wix is fairly straightforward and can be completed with just a few clicks.
